The Roy Cazaly Football Club
The Cazaly Sports Foundation and The Roy Cazaly Football Club have been established to promote the philosophies of health and well being as demonstrated by the life's work of the late Roy (Up there) Cazaly.
Roy, who played for and coached many football clubs over four decades, was a strict non-smoker and non-drinker who avoided fried foods. At only 180 cm (5 foot 11 inches), and weighing 79.5 kg (12 stone 7 pounds), he was not a big man.
He perfected his famous leap by controlling his breathing and practiced by jumping for a ball suspended from a string in his shed.
His vertical jump from a standing start was once measured at 1.3 m (52 inches). As a player, Roy developed his own fitness regimes and took particular care of his feet.
He was an excellent kick with either foot and was also ambidextrous.
As a coach, he developed innovative conditioning drills and demanded that his players achieve and maintain peak fitness throughout the football season.
Anything else, he declared, was not fair to the player, the team or their supporters. Off the field, Roy was a self trained physiotherapist who devoted much of his life to helping sportsmen and ordinary working people to overcome debilitating illness and injuries, often for little or no payment.
Many of the values that Roy believed in - such as the importance of community and helping others - and the fundamentals of his approach to health and wellness still hold true today.
Established by his grandson Rick, The Cazaly Sports Foundation seeks to raise funds from business, industry and the community through The Roy Cazaly Football Club, in order to support eligible organisations and individuals which reflect the values Roy espoused.
Its objectives are:
To assist disabled or injured footballers
To foster a healthy development of Australian Rules Football
To raise funds for projects which align with the philosophy and aims of the Foundation.
